February 16, 2000 Meeting Minutes Banner

Members Present: Adam, Susan, Arnie, Maryanne, Joan, Joe, Cheryl Edleson Hanway, Fred Mogul, Renee Trachtenberg, Cathy Votaw, Frances Tucker.

TOPICS DISCUSSED:

1.Adam announced that Tammy (Midnight's mom) agreed to build a bulletin board for dog-related messages and announcements. The committee asked Adam if Tammy could provide an artist rendering of the board to show the Friends, and to make sure that it is what the committee had in mind. We asked Adam if he could find how when Tammy might complete the project.

2. Karoline Wallace has created a wonderful Web site for us. But she needs news! Some possible topics: Tell us about your favorite vet; comment list; dog sitters, etc... Please send her any neighborhood news at: Kwallace@KarolineWallace.net

3. Adam will call for another large amount of chips for the Dog Park. We will try to get them to supply us on a regular basis, like once a month.

4. We have scheduled a 'work day' on February 26, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00. Please bring your rakes, sheets, wheelbarrows, since we have a good number of chips to move around. We also agreed to try to clean up other areas of the park, which have unfortunately too many unpicked up poops to count! We are hoping that Maryanne and Laura can make an attractive workday sign to spread the word.

5. Joan shared pictures from the NY Dog Park. We discussed creating signs that would clearly indicate the importance of maintaining the park.

6. We've asked Fairmount Park to consult with us on our lighting problem. The first step will be to put in a larger fixture at the back of the Dog Park. The long-term goal is to wire additional circuits so that we get more light.

7. Maryanne indicated that there was a good turn out at the Trinity community meeting. Our new police commissioner seems on the ball. He reported that most of the minor misdemeanors over Christmas and New Year's have been solved.

8. Someone asked if the dog association will police others who refuse to use the dog run, and allow their dogs off-leash. Our policy is to make the dog run more attractive with water fountains, well-maintained grounds, benches and lightening. We will not however, police others.

9. Susan called the anti-graffiti network to remove the graffiti from the large building on 25th and Delancey.

10. We discussed having a Pet Day festival as a fund-raiser, with lots of activities involving pets, like dog training, dog treats, dog jewelry, to be continued…

Next meeting: March 21, 7:30 p.m. at Maryanne Conheim's. Please plan to attend!

As secretary, I will be collecting people's addresses so that those without email can stay in touch.
